Police authorities have said they have found no evidence to support recent social media claims about attempted kidnappings in the Pinamalayan area.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Joel G. Paningbatan, chief of the Pinamalayan Municipal Police Station (MPS), bared that no cases matching the viral social media reports have been recorded by the PNP station.
Earlier, the Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office released a statement debunking reports on alleged kidnappings in certain municipalities in the province.
The statement came after some Facebooks accounts are posting alleged incidents of kidnappings targetting school children.
In Pinamalayan town, the police response came after posts circulated on Facebook claiming multiple incidents involving a tricycle driver allegedly attempting to force passengers into his vehicle.
Paningbatan assured the public that police officers are deployed throughout Pinamalayan to maintain security.
He encouraged residents to report any suspicious incidents directly to the police station, noting that all reports will be thoroughly investigated.
Meanwhile, the Mansalay PNP station has issued today a separate statement denying the alleged incidents of abduction in Mansalay town.
Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and immediately contact their nearest PNP station if they witness or experience any suspicious activity. (with a report from Michael Landicho)
