In response to a series of alarming fire incidents across the province, Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor has issued an urgent public safety appeal, pointing out the critical need for increased awareness and preventative measures.
“Double precaution is necessary,” Governor Dolor stated in a Facebook post, citing the recent surge of fires that have threatened life and property in various municipalities of Oriental Mindoro.
The governor’s warning comes in the wake of a fatal fire at Three Kings General Merchandise in Pinamalayan, which claimed the life of store owner Arsenio King.
However, the focus of Dolor’s statement extends beyond this specific incident to a wider concern about fire safety.
Dolor outlined four specific safety recommendations for residents: unplug electrical appliances when not in use; avoid leaving mobile phones charging unattended; extinguish candles immediately after use; and turn off gas stoves after cooking.
Fire protection authorities continue to investigate recent fire outbreaks, supporting the governor’s call for heightened vigilance.
Fire Prevention Month in the country is observed every March.
March is designated as such because this month typically records a higher number of fire incidents due to the dry season.
During Fire Prevention Month, various activities and campaigns are conducted nationwide to raise awareness about fire safety and prevention measures.
