The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two farm-to-market roads (FMRs) in Occidental Mindoro, boosting agricultural trade and economic productivity.
In Barangay Purnaga, Magsaysay, a 1.61-kilometer, two-lane road project costing P19.79 million provides an all-weather access route for farmers to transport produce to nearby markets.
The road, equipped with solar street lights, enhances safety and access to essential services for the community.
DPWH Region IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan reported to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan that the project is crucial for supporting residents and farmers’ daily activities.
In Sitio Marabong, Barangay Batong Buhay, Sablayan, a 608-linear meter roadway costing P14.84 million now serves as a vital transportation link.
The new road replaces an old, unpaved route, easing transportation challenges and accelerating agricultural activities in the area.
Both projects include paved shoulders and stone masonry line canals to ensure resilient and sustainable roadways.
“The completion of these road concreting projects is anticipated to increase economic opportunities and developments, improving the living conditions in the rural areas of Occidental Mindoro,” Pacanan said in a news release.
