Maritime police arrested a 47-year-old suspect for illegally selling protected birds in an entrapment operation in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

The suspect, identified only as “Lhoy Da Vinci,” was apprehended outside a 7-Eleven convenience store for violating wildlife protection and cybercrime prevention laws.

Authorities seized 12 eye-ring African lovebirds valued at P10,000 pesos, along with a mobile phone allegedly used for online transactions.

The protected birds were turned over to DENR officials for rehabilitation.

The operation was a joint effort between the Occidental Mindoro Maritime Police Station and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Community Environment and Natural Resources Office.
