Oriental Mindoro Mandates Sea Transport Firms to Air Tourism Videos

The Oriental Mindoro provincial government has issued an ordinance requiring all sea transportation companies operating in the province to air tourism promotional and cultural preservation videos on their vessels.

Provincial Ordinance No. 179-2024, authored by Board Member Farrah Fay Ilano-Navarro, mandates that these videos must be shown using the vessels’ public audiovisual equipment for at least 10% of the total travel time.

The ordinance covers all sea transportation companies operating vessels that regularly ply routes to and from Oriental Mindoro, including fast craft ferries, RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessels, passenger ships, and other sea-bound transport services.

The content must feature popular tourist attractions, cultural heritage, local festivals, and other tourism-related content representing Oriental Mindoro’s best offerings.

The ordinance intends to raise awareness about Oriental Mindoro’s tourism destinations, promote local tourism industries, enhance travel experiences, and support economic growth by driving increased tourist arrivals.

Under the ordinance, the Provincial Tourism Office is tasked with producing and providing the promotional videos to sea transportation companies, ensuring the content is regularly updated.

The Local Tourism Office where the port of origin is located will provide and update the promotional video about the port of origin.

Sea transportation companies are required to air the provided promotional videos as prescribed by the ordinance.

Compliance will be monitored by the Provincial Tourism Office in coordination with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and other relevant agencies.

The ordinance also encourages institutional partnerships and collaboration between the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) and sea transportation companies for the production of tourism videos and the implementation of the ordinance.

Funding for the production of tourism videos will be allocated by the PGOM through the Provincial Tourism Office, while sea transportation companies are encouraged to provide logistical support for the airing of videos.

The provincial government believes that utilizing sea vessels as platforms to broadcast promotional videos will help promote Oriental Mindoro as a preferred tourist destination in the country.
