Northern portions of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro provinces were placed under Storm Signal No. 1 on Saturday as Super Typhoon Pepito approached the Philippines’ eastern seaboard.

The weather bureau PAGASA warned of winds between 39 to 61 kilometers per hour affecting the municipalities of Sablayan, Santa Cruz, Mamburao, Abra de Ilog, and Paluan in Occidental Mindoro, including Lubang Islands.

In Oriental Mindoro, affected areas include Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, Naujan, and several other municipalities.

The super typhoon, packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center and gustiness up to 240 kph, was located 200 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon, as of 1 p.m. Nov. 16, 2024.

PAGASA advised minimal to minor threats to life and property in areas under Signal No. 1, with possible damage to some light materials used in house construction.

The weather agency expects Pepito to make landfall in Catanduanes province tonight or early Sunday morning.
