Supertyphoon Pepito Poses Threats to Mindoro, MIMAROPA Region

Mindoro Island and the rest of MIMAROPA Region are at risk of being hit by Tropical Storm MAN-YI (local name: Pepito) as the weather system moves toward the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau PAGASA announced Thursday.

According to PAGASA’s weather bulletin, the storm, currently located 1,375 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao, falls within the forecast confidence cone that includes Mindoro and neighboring provinces.

The weather disturbance is expected to enter PAR by Thursday evening and may intensify into a typhoon by tomorrow morning.

“The possibility of rapid intensification is not ruled out,” PAGASA warned, adding that MAN-YI could potentially reach super typhoon category before making landfall.

The weather agency pointed out that while the exact track may still shift, most areas in Luzon and Eastern Visayas should prepare for heavy rainfall, severe winds, and possible storm surge inundation.

Residents of affected areas are advised to monitor updates and coordinate with their local disaster risk reduction and management offices for preparedness measures.
