9 Days On, Vessel Remains Lost Off Mindoro Coast

Nine days after it was reported missing, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has yet to locate the M/V Sta. Monica, which was last seen heading to Palawan seeking shelter from bad weather due to typhoon Kristine.

As of November 5, PCG has intensified its search and rescue efforts in the waters between Taytay, Palawan, and Paluan, Occidental Mindoro.

Coast Guard’s BN Islander aircraft has conducted extensive aerial searches to the east of Taytay and from San Jose to Paluan, but so far, these efforts have yielded no results.

Coast Guard personnel have also been patrolling both sea and shorelines in Occidental Mindoro, while the Coast Guard District in Palawan has increased its patrols in the area.

PCG is also working with local fisherfolk to gather and disseminate information that may aid in the search.

M/V Sta. Monica was reported unreachable on October 27, 2024, five days after it set sail for Casian, Taytay, Palawan, to seek shelter from bad weather.

All attempts to contact its 10-member crew, including the captain, have failed.

The Coast Guard District Palawan is working closely with the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog and other regional units to locate the missing vessel.

Ongoing search and rescue operations include aerial, seaborne, and shoreline patrols, and PCG said it is committed to finding the lost vessel.

PCG has released photos of the ongoing search and rescue operations, which can be seen on their social media accounts.
