Strong Winds Expected in MIMAROPA as Tropical Storm Leon Intensifies

The state weather bureau has warned Sunday that MIMAROPA region will experience gusty conditions as Tropical Storm Leon (international name: Kong-rey) slightly intensified while moving westward over the Philippine Sea.

In its advisory today, October 27, 2024, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that strong to gale-force winds are expected to affect Palawan and Romblon today, with most of MIMAROPA region experiencing similar conditions through Tuesday.

As of 4 p.m. Sunday, Leon was located 1,000 kilometers east of Central Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

While no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is currently hoisted over MIMAROPA, mariners operating small seacraft are advised to take precautionary measures due to moderate seas reaching up to 2.5 meters along the western seaboard of Palawan and Occidental Mindoro.

PAGASA forecasts Leon to gradually intensify in the next 24 hours and may reach severe tropical storm category by Monday and typhoon category by Tuesday.
