Tropical Storm Kristine threatens to bring flooding to Mindoro as authorities issued a flood advisory for the island on Tuesday.
The state weather bureau PAGASA warned of possible flash floods in both Oriental and Occidental Mindoro provinces as the storm approaches.
As of 3:00 am, Kristine was located 400 kilometers (248 miles) east of Virac, moving west at 15 km/h with maximum winds of 65 km/h.
In Occidental Mindoro, rivers including Abra de Ilog and Mamburao are at risk of overflowing.
Oriental Mindoro faces similar threats, with the Malaylay-Baco and Bongabong rivers among those likely to be affected.
PAGASA forecasts light to moderate rains and thunderstorms across Mindoro.
“Residents near mountain slopes and low-lying areas should stay alert for possible flash floods,” a PAGASA official said.
Local disaster management councils have been advised to prepare for potential emergencies.
The flood advisory, issued at 6:00 am, remains in effect until further notice.
