Oriental Mindoro Exceeds Targets in Tuberculosis Screening Drive

Health officials in Oriental Mindoro province have conducted a tuberculosis (TB) active case finding program from October 9-11, 2024, surpassing screening targets in three municipalities.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO), in collaboration with the Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO) and Center for Health Development MIMAROPA (CHD MIMAROPA), carried out the screening in the municipalities of Mansalay, Bongabong, and Bulalacao.

Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) provided free X-ray services, while the Rotary Club of Guiguinto (RCG) assisted with implementation.

    Screening results exceeded targets:

    • Mansalay: 252 screened (target: 200)
    • Bongabong: 228 screened (target: 200)
    • Bulalacao: 307 screened (target: 250)

The activity also included HIV counselling and testing, as well as sputum sample collection for GeneXpert testing of presumptive TB cases identified through X-ray results.

Health officials said the program is designed to increase TB case detection rates and achieve zero mortality rates, eliminating tuberculosis and improving community health in the island.
