Singing of ‘Dancing Queen’ Inside Mindoro Church Sparks Controversy

A recent performance by Filipino singer Julie Anne San Jose at a church in Occidental Mindoro has drawn criticism from netizens.

San Jose, known as “Asia’s Limitless Star,” performed at the Nuestra Señora Del Pilar Shrine in Mamburao on Oct. 6, 2024 as part of a benefit concert.

A video of her dancing and singing to “Dancing Queen” in front of the altar has sparked outrage online.

Some netizens questioned the singer’s choice of song and outfit, saying they were not suitable for a church setting.

San Jose’s backless and sleeveless gown was also criticized.

Others argued that performances in churches can be acceptable if they respect the sanctity of the place, such as singing religious songs or hymns.

The controversy has sparked a debate on social media about what is considered respectful behavior in a place of worship.
