Communities in Barangay San Nicolas, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro can now breathe a sigh of relief as a flood control structure along the Panggalaan River has been completed, providing protection against persistent flooding.
According to a report by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the project is a crucial preventive measure designed to safeguard susceptible areas in Barangay San Nicolas, which have been severely affected by destructive flooding.
The completed project, implemented by the DPWH Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office, involves the construction of a 250-lineal meter concrete revetment with steel sheet piles, enhancing the resilience of riverside communities in Naujan.
“The revetment wall will not only protect communities from flooding but also encourage more livelihood and business activities in the area, contributing to the economic growth of the town,” Director Pacanan said.
The P96.49 million project was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024.
With its completion, residents in Barangay San Nicolas can now look forward to reduced risks of flooding and increased economic opportunities.
