SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro — Local officials and tourism stakeholders gathered for a two-day workshop designed at developing a comprehensive tourism code for this municipality.

The “Local Tourism Code Writeshop,” held Oct. 1-2 at the MEO Conference Hall, brought together representatives from various municipal offices under the direction of Mayor Rey C. Ladaga.

The event was organized by the Municipal Tourism and Community Development Office.

Tourism development experts Chen Reyes-Mencias and Luis Mencias led discussions on crafting policies to promote the area’s cultural heritage and natural attractions.

Vice Mayor Santiago V. Javier Jr. and Tourism Committee Chair Myrna G. Zapanta attended the sessions.

Participants worked to identify major aspects of tourism development and reviewed existing regulations that could be adapted at the local level.

The proposed tourism code will establish guidelines for infrastructure development, environmental conservation and community involvement.

San Jose LGU officials say the new framework will create a sustainable tourism industry that will benefit the local economy while protecting community interests and natural resources.

The municipality of San Jose serves as a gateway to various tourist destinations in Occidental Mindoro.
