Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro — Mindoro Today, an independent news portal focusing on Mindoro island, has seen steady growth in its social media presence and audience engagement over the past 3 months, according to recent analytics data.

The Facebook page of Mindoro Today has surpassed 5,000 followers, carving a milestone for the digital news outlet.

Engagement metrics show even more dramatic growth.

Mindoro Today page reached over 591,400 users in the last 90 days, a 15% increase from the previous period.

The surge in audience reach comes despite the page’s focus on serious news content and in-depth reporting.

Mindoro Today’s most popular content to date is a human interest video featuring a former world champion boxer from Mindoro who now sells chicken and fish.

The video has garnered more than 727,000 views, demonstrating the audience’s appetite for Mindoro-related stories of perseverance and transformation.

The news portal’s growth extends beyond social media. Its website, mindorotoday.tv, has seen a steady increase in readership.

The outlet’s in-depth coverage of Mindoro’s ongoing power crisis and the ASF outbreak has been particularly well-received, showing the importance of Mindoro-based journalism in addressing critical social issues.

Demographic data reveals that Mindoro Today’s audience is predominantly male (64.2%) and primarily in the 25-44 age range.

The majority of followers (91%) are based in the Philippines, with a notable concentration in Mindoro areas such as Pinamalayan (14%), Gloria (6%), and Calapan (6%).

Interestingly, the page has also attracted followers from overseas Filipino communities, with remarkable numbers in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Hong Kong, Canada, and Australia.

Direk Romel Feriol Bernardo, entrepreneur and founder and editor-in-chief of Mindoro Today, expressed satisfaction with the growth.

“Our commitment to providing a wide range of news, features, and commentary about Mindoro is resonating with our audience,” Bernardo said. “We’re particularly proud of our coverage of the power crisis in Mindoro, which has helped inform and engage the community on this critical issue.”

Mindoro Today, formerly known as Direktv, has positioned itself as a gateway for news about Mindoro, the country’s seventh-largest island and a strategic link to the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

The outlet’s tagline, “Informing Progress, Inspiring Change,” reflects its mission to not only report on current events but also to contribute to the island’s development.

As Mindoro Today continues to grow, it faces the challenge of maintaining its commitment to in-depth, quality journalism while catering to an expanding and diverse audience.

The outlet’s success in balancing serious news coverage with engaging content that resonates with Mindoreño communities may serve as a model for other provincial news organizations in the Philippines and beyond in this digital age.

With its increasing reach and engagement, Mindoro Today is poised to play a role in shaping public discourse and awareness about issues affecting Mindoro and its people.
