The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P96.49 million peso project to build a causeway with a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ramp in the coastal community of Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, improving mobility and inter-island connectivity in Mindoro.
According to a report by Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the project will facilitate the movement of Mindoro goods and products to neighboring islands, a driver in boosting Mindoro economy.
“The installation of the RoRo ramp is expected to benefit local businesses, fishermen, and merchants by providing secure access for watercraft, thereby strengthening the island’s opportunities for sustainable livelihood,” Pacanan said.
The project, implemented by the DPWH Mindoro Occidental District Engineering Office, involved the construction of a trestle with mooring bollards and a reinforced concrete platform designed to prevent vessel collisions and ensure the structure’s durability.
Residents in Barangay Marikit have reported remarkable improvements in daily activities since the project’s completion, contributing to a better quality of life in the place.
The project was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2023.
