The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) MIMAROPA region is set to launch its annual International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 21, 2024, under the theme “Clean Seas for Blue Economy.”
The event, scheduled to begin at 6:30 AM, will span 31 cleanup sites across five provinces in MIMAROPA region:
- Occidental Mindoro (7 sites)
- Oriental Mindoro (4 sites)
- Marinduque (1 site)
- Romblon (4 sites)
- Palawan (15 sites)
Notable locations include popular tourist destinations such as Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
“This activity aims to promote environmental awareness and foster a blue economy by preserving our coastal areas,” said a DENR spokesperson.
The cleanup sites are distributed as follows:
- Occidental Mindoro: Sablayan, Sta. Cruz, Mamburao, Paluan, Abra de Ilog, San Jose, and Calintaan
- Oriental Mindoro: Calapan, Puerto Galera, and Pinamalayan
- Marinduque: Buenavista
- Romblon: Odiongan, San Fernando, Magdiwang, and Cajidiocan
- Palawan: Bataraza, Roxas, San Vicente, Taytay, Quezon, Coron, and Puerto Princesa City
DENR is calling for volunteers to participate in this environmental effort, which is part of the global movement to reduce marine pollution and protect coastal ecosystems.
The event is aligned with the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) and is supported by various local environmental organizations.
