Cargo Vessel Runs Aground Off Mindoro Coast

A cargo vessel ran aground approximately 200 meters from the shoreline off Lubang, Occidental Mindoro, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported Tuesday.

The LCT Felicity 8, carrying 13 crew members, had just unloaded sand and gravel at Tilik Port when it encountered a fishing boat in its path.

In an attempt to avoid collision, the vessel ran aground in shallow waters.

Coast Guard officials said the crew initiated deballasting procedures to refloat the vessel, but these efforts were unsuccessful.

Attempts to tow the ship to deeper waters also failed.

A hull inspection conducted on September 16, 2024 revealed no water leakage, but showed a flattened area on the opposite side of the port beam.

PCG advised the vessel’s captain to renew expired documents, including safety and seaworthiness certifications.

No oil spill has been reported, but the Coast Guard continues to monitor the situation.

Filipino fishermen have been warned to avoid the area for safety reasons.
