The Oriental Mindoro Provincial Health Office has launched a province-wide clean-up campaign to combat a surge in dengue cases, local officials announced on Tuesday.
Dubbed “Oplan DenGetOut,” the campaign will culminate in a Province-wide Clean-Up Day on September 20, 2024, starting at 8:00 AM.
The program, led by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Cielo Angela A. Ante, intends to mobilize residents in eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.
Governor Bonz Dolor has endorsed the campaign, urging all citizens to participate in the drive to control the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
“We’re calling on everyone to join this crucial campaign. Maintaining a clean environment is a way to a safer, healthier province,” PHO said.
At the onset of the rainy season this year, Oriental Mindoro is plagued with a rising number of dengue cases.
LGU officials have repeatedly reminded Mindoreños of the need of community involvement in dengue prevention, focusing on eliminating stagnant water sources where mosquitoes breed.
The PHO has set up a hotline (043-288-7672) for inquiries and additional information about the campaign.
Dengue fever, transmitted by infected Aedes mosquitoes, is a rising public health menace in many parts of the country.
