The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two road concreting projects in Oriental Mindoro, improving transportation access for Mindoreño residents in the towns of Naujan and Bongabong.

The projects, which cost a combined PhP9.8 million pesos, involved the upgrading of unpaved roads to concrete cement pavements, including the construction of shoulders and slope protection to enhance the roads’ resilience against unfavorable weather conditions.

In Naujan, the DPWH Mindoro District Engineering Office completed a 415-meter road concreting project in Sitio II, Barangay Aurora, which is expected to reduce the risk of road accidents and improve the delivery of goods and access to essential services.

The project, which cost P4.94 million pesos, is seen as a driver of economic growth and productivity in the area.

Meanwhile, in Bongabong, the DPWH Southern Mindoro District Engineering Office completed a 2-lane, 446-meter access road that provides a reliable transport infrastructure for the agricultural sector.

The project, which cost PhP4.86 million pesos, includes retaining walls and shoulders on both sides, serving as safety components that reinforce the durability of the all-weather road.

“The completion of these two road projects in the essential areas of Naujan and Bongabong contributes to economic growth and agricultural productivity in Oriental Mindoro,” said District Engineer Salvador E. Abad.

The projects are part of the Pres. Marcos administration’s efforts to improve the country’s infrastructure and boost economic growth in rural areas.

DPWH has been working to upgrade the country’s roads and bridges, with a focus on improving access to essential services and promoting economic development, the agency said.
