A flood control project along the Mag-Asawang Tubig River has brought improvements to the agricultural and livelihood activities of residents in Barangay San Carlos, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, officials said.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the project, which is considered as a vital piece of infrastructure for the vulnerable community, mostly affected by the destructive effects of flooding.
“The constructed river wall provides a sense of relief and security to the residents against the threat of flooding and water overflowing that causes detrimental damage to their crops, livestock, and properties for many years,” said DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan in a statement.
The project, implemented by the DPWH Mindoro Oriental District Engineering Office, involved the construction of a 268.27-lineal meter concrete revetment with steel sheet piles to minimize the adverse impact of flooding on the community.
The PHP48.9 million peso project was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024, according to the DPWH.
The completion of the project is expected to bring long-term benefits to the residents of Barangay San Carlos, who have been struggling with the effects of flooding for years.
