The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the country’s money regulator, has issued a warning to the public about a surge in text scams pretending to be from the Social Security System (SSS).
These scams try to trick individuals into divulging sensitive information or compromising their financial accounts.
In an advisory, BSP urged anyone who has fallen victim to these scams to immediately contact their bank or e-money issuer through official channels.
A directory of consumer assistance channels can be found on the BSP website.
Moreover, BSP advised the public to report these scams to the relevant authorities, including:
•The SSS Special Investigation Department, via email at [email protected] or by calling (02) 8924-7370
•The Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center, through their online reporting platform
•The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group Complaint Action Center, also through their online reporting platform
If the bank or e-money issuer fails to take adequate action on a complaint, BSP encourages the public to report the issue to them through the BSP Online Buddy (BOB) or by chatting with BOB on BSP Facebook Messenger.
