As Severe Tropical Storm Enteng (Yagi) exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), MIMAROPA region is expected to experience southwest monsoon winds (habagat) today, Sept. 4, bringing moderate to intense rainfall over the next three days.
According to the Sept. 4 morning advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Enteng has slightly intensified and is now located 265 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 125 kilometers per hour.
Although no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals are in effect, the enhanced southwest monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the MIMAROPA region, particularly in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to protect life and property.
The southwest monsoon is also expected to bring moderate to intense rainfall in other areas of Luzon, including the Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Isabela, Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island, and Northern Samar.
PAGASA warned of possible flooding and rain-induced landslides, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and follow evacuation instructions from local officials.
Enteng, leaving 14 people dead and displacing 145,000 residents in Luzon and Visayas, is forecast to move westward until tomorrow and then turn west northwestward, making landfall in southern mainland China over the weekend. The storm is expected to intensify and may become a typhoon within the next 12 hours.
This is the final weather news update for typhoon Enteng, unless re-entry occurs.
