The Philippine weather bureau PAGASA reported Sunday that a low pressure area east of Eastern Visayas has developed into Tropical Depression “Enteng”, prompting the issuance of wind signals in parts of Luzon and Visayas.

As of 10:00 AM Sept. 01, Enteng was located 120 km north-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center with gusts up to 55 km/h. The system is moving northwestward at 30 km/h.

PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over eastern portions of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Burias Island, and Ticao Island in Luzon. In the Visayas, the alert covers Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, and northeastern Leyte.

Heavy rainfall is expected in several regions, with 100-200 mm of accumulated rainfall forecast for Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Biliran from today until tomorrow noon.

The weather agency warned of possible flooding and rain-induced landslides, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards. The enhanced Southwest Monsoon is also expected to bring moderate to intense rainfall in other parts of Luzon and Visayas.

Moderate to rough seas are expected over the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, as well as parts of Visayas and Mindanao. PAGASA advised small seacraft not to venture out to sea in these areas.

Enteng is forecast to move northwestward to north-northwestward today, gradually intensifying. A potential landfall in the Bicol Region-Eastern Visayas area is not ruled out within the next 48 hours. The system may reach tropical storm category by tomorrow.

PAGASA urged the public and disaster risk reduction offices to take necessary precautions and monitor local weather updates for their specific areas.
