The Municipality of Roxas in Oriental Mindoro province will temporarily close portions of major streets on August 26, 2024 for a youth celebration, according to an executive order issued by the municipal mayor.

The order, signed by Mayor Leo G. Cusi Sr., calls for the closure of parts of Morente and Magsaysay Streets in Barangay Bagumbayan from 1:00 p.m. on August 26 until 1:00 a.m. on August 27, 2024.

The closure is to facilitate the “Linggo ng Kabataan: GABING KABATAANG ROXASEÑO” (Youth Week: Night of Roxas Youth) event, which includes a “Battle of the Bands” competition.

A motorcade will kick off the celebration, starting from the Capitol in the South and proceeding along Leuterio Drive, JP Rizal Street, the left side of Cabrera St., and the right side of Administration St., ending at the corner of Morente and Magsaysay Street.

LGU Roxas said that helmet use will be strictly enforced for motorcyclists participating in or traveling during the event.

Alternative routes have been designated for through traffic:

  • Vehicles from Bulalacao and Mansalay heading to Calapan are advised to take San Aquilino, Odiong, Paclasan, and Bagumbayan roads.
  • Those traveling from Calapan to Mansalay and Bulalacao should use Dangay, Bagumbayan, Paclasan, and Odiong routes.

The LGU said the measure aims to ensure public safety and the successful staging of the youth-focused event, which promotes civic engagement among young residents.

Motorists are advised to follow posted signage for alternate routes and to plan their trips accordingly during the closure period.
