A remote school for indigenous people in Oriental Mindoro has received a solar-powered STARBOOKS kiosk, providing students and teachers with access to free science, technology and innovation information resources.

The Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) partnered with Mountain Support PH, Inc. (MSPI), a youth-led nonprofit organization, to install the kiosk at Panaytayan Elementary School in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro.

The solar-powered STARBOOKS will benefit 330 elementary students and 12 teachers, offering a wide range of information resources.

School officials also received comprehensive user orientation and training on how to effectively utilize the STARBOOKS.

MSPI previously donated two portable solar power stations and two laptop units to DOST-STII for deployment as a STARBOOKS server unit in two pre-selected indigenous people schools in the province.

Mountain Support PH, Inc. aims to provide human-centered solutions to socially vulnerable and off-grid mountainous communities.

The STARBOOKS project is part of the government’s efforts to promote science and technology among Filipino learners.
