Occidental Mindoro Gov. Ed Gadiano distributed special financial aid to farmers and fishermen affected by the El Niño phenomenon in Sta. Cruz town on Monday.
The aid, amounting to P10,000 pesos each, was given to 726 individuals to help them restart their livelihoods. The total amount distributed was P7.26 million pesos.
Gadiano was joined by Provincial Board Member Ryan Sioson, Sta. Cruz Municipal Mayor Ernie Torreliza, Provincial Agriculturist Alrizza C. Zubiri, and staff from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The governor said the aid aims to cushion the devastating effects of El Niño to farmers and fisher folks.
He added that the financial assistance is also part of his administration’s efforts to support the livelihood and welfare of Mindoreños while developing the agricultural sector in the province.
