Over 800 trees were successfully planted in Barangay Casague, Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro on August 02 as part of the 2024 National Disaster Resilience Month celebrations.
The initiative, led by Governor Eduardo B. Gadiano and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), saw the planting of narra, jackfruit, gmelina, and mahogany trees.
The tree-planting activity, supported by the provincial government, aligns with Governor Gadiano’s environmental conservation goals. It aims to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change currently impacting the country.
Various government agencies participated in the “Planting for the Future” event, including:
- Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO)
- Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)
- Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)
- Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)
- Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)
- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)
- Philippine National Police (PNP) Santa Cruz
- Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO)
- Department of Education (DepEd)
Local government units, community organisations, and educational institutions also took part in the event.
Gov. Gadiano said the tree-planting is a step towards building a more resilient and environmentally conscious community in Occidental Mindoro.
