In a significant political development ahead of the 2025 national and local elections, Oriental Mindoro’s most influential political family, led by Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor, launched their own political party on July 31. The party, named “Galing at Serbisyo para sa Mindoreño” (GSM), was unveiled during a high-profile event at Benilda Resort in Naujan, attended by hundreds of barangay leaders from across the province.

Building on the momentum that propelled Governor Dolor’s victories in the 2019 and 2022 elections, the Dolor family formally introduced GSM, signaling their intent to consolidate power within the province. Governor Dolor will serve as the party’s chairman and president, while former 2nd District Representative Manny Andaya has been named vice chairman.

Key positions within GSM will be held by Dolor’s siblings, reinforcing the family’s tight grip on the party’s leadership. Engr. Humprey Dolor, the outspoken general manager of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, has been appointed as secretary general, while the highly-respected Dr. Hubbert Dolor, the governor’s eldest brother and provincial chairman, will serve as vice president. Dr. Dolor is rumored to be eyeing the province’s second congressional seat, setting the stage for a potential three-way contest against incumbent Rep. Alfonso Umali Jr. of the Liberal Party and Vice Governor Ejay Falcon, who was notably absent from the launch event.

During his speech, Governor Dolor emphasized that GSM is not merely a political vehicle but also a platform for delivering meaningful public service to the people of Oriental Mindoro.

“I know that politics inevitably follows after this, but let me be clear, we established GSM not just for elections, but rather as a vehicle of public service for Mindoreños,” Dolor stated, underscoring his commitment to his final term, where he is widely expected to run unopposed.

On May 27, 2024, Governor Dolor informed Mindoro Today founder and entrepreneur Romel “Direk” Bernardo that GSM was in the process of securing accreditation from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). This conversation took place on the sidelines of the grand opening of RIL NOAH Shipyard in Pinamalayan, where Dolor was the guest of honor.

“I’m expecting that my allies, those who want to stand with Gov. Bonz, will run under GSM,” Dolor said, signaling his expectation that his supporters will rally behind the newly-formed party in the 2025 elections.

The launch of GSM coincided with the mass oath-taking of first district mayors into the Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas CMD), led by 1st District Representative Arnan C. Panaligan. Panaligan, a key figure in Lakas CMD’s resurgence in the province, had earlier stated that Lakas CMD will likely not field candidates at the provincial level in the upcoming elections as his focus remains on revitalizing the party in the first district, which includes the provincial capital, Calapan City, and seven municipalities.
