A new flood control structure has been completed along the Bucayao River in Oriental Mindoro province, offering improved protection for low-lying areas in Barangay San Luis, Naujan municipality, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced.
The 95.48-meter concrete revetment with steel sheet piles aims to mitigate flooding risks to agricultural lands, livestock, and properties in the area.
DPWH Regional Office IV-B Director Gerald A. Pacanan said the P48.9 million project, funded under the 2024 national budget, is part of a series of flood mitigation measures along the Bucayao River.
“This structure provides residents with increased safety from water overflow that has long affected their livelihoods and properties,” Pacanan said.
The DPWH has implemented similar flood control projects in key areas of Calapan and Naujan to address recurring flood issues in the province.
