Over 2.6 million residents in the MIMAROPA region have registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), according to statistics officials.
Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) MIMAROPA Regional Director Leni R. Rioflorido announced during a recent press conference in Oriental Mindoro that 2,680,678 individuals across the region had registered as of July 17.
Palawan province leads with 1,028,498 registrants, followed by Oriental Mindoro with 757,122 and Occidental Mindoro with 439,511. Romblon and Marinduque recorded 250,695 and 204,852 registrants, respectively.
“Of this total, 2 million registered individuals have already received their Electronic Philippine Identification through requests at registration centers, plaza-type distributions, and house-to-house deliveries of ePhilIDs,” Rioflorido said.
Data shows that 713,581 national IDs have been distributed in Palawan, 649,402 in Oriental Mindoro, 349,088 in Occidental Mindoro, 213,704 in Romblon, and 159,868 in Marinduque.
The PhilID, mandated by Republic Act No. 11055 or the PhilSys Act, serves as the official national identification for Filipino citizens. It can be used for transactions with all national and local government agencies, as well as private sector entities such as banks and other institutions.
The PhilSys program aims to provide a single, reliable identification system for all Filipinos, streamlining access to government services and financial institutions. (source: PIA)
