Residents of Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro have come together in a massive cleanup effort aimed at preventing further flooding in the municipality.
The initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Aris Baldos Jr., focuses on clearing major waterways to facilitate the flow of floodwaters to rivers and the sea.
In a heartfelt message to his constituents, Mayor Baldos expressed his gratitude for their overwhelming response to the call for action. In an FB post, he said in Tagalog, “Salamat po sa mga minamahal nating kababayan sa inyong buong pusong pag-tugon sa ating isinasagawang malawakang paglilinis sa mga pangunahing daluyan ng tubig para madaling makababa ang tubig baha patungo sa ilog at dagat.”
The mayor emphasized the importance of community involvement in addressing local challenges.
“Wala pong ibang magmamahal sa ating Bayan kundi tayo ding mga Pinamaleño,” he added, highlighting the unique role of residents in caring for their hometown.
The cleanup drive comes in the wake of recent flooding triggered by typhoon Carina which has affected several towns in Mindoro including Pinamalayan.
Baldos expressed optimism about overcoming the current crisis, drawing parallels to past calamities that the community has successfully weathered together.
The mayor’s initiative not only aims to mitigate flood risks but also fosters a sense of unity and resilience among Pinamalayan residents.
