DTI Oriental Mindoro Issues Violations to Six Establishments for Non-Compliant Products

ROXAS, Oriental Mindoro – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Oriental Mindoro has issued Notices of Violation to six establishments following surprise inspections conducted in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro this month, officials said on Friday.

The Provincial Monitoring and Enforcement Team (PMET), in collaboration with the local Negosyo Center, carried out the inspections as part of ongoing efforts to ensure product compliance and consumer safety in the region.

The violations were primarily related to the sale of products lacking the mandatory Philippine Standard (PS) Mark or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) Sticker, which certify that items have passed quality and safety standards set by the DTI Bureau of Philippine Standards.

PMET officials sealed non-compliant products, including galvanized iron wires, electric clip fans, and electrical receptacles, with an estimated value of P110,695.

The inspections targeted establishments selling a wide range of products, including household appliances, consumer electronics, lighting and wiring devices, steel products, plastic pipes, ceramic products, cement and construction materials, chemical products, automotive-related items, and other consumer goods subject to mandatory certification.

“We urge consumers to always look for the PS Mark or ICC Sticker when purchasing products to ensure they meet safety and quality standards,” said Maria Santos, DTI Oriental Mindoro Provincial Director. “This is crucial for consumer protection and fair market practices.”

DTI has also encouraged the public to use the ICC Verification System Mobile App to authenticate ICC Stickers on products.

The crackdown comes as part of a broader national initiative to improve product standards and consumer safety across the Philippines.

In 2023, the DTI reported a 15% increase in compliance rates nationwide, but challenges remain in remote areas and with smaller retailers.

Consumers are advised to report non-compliant or substandard products to the DTI for appropriate action.

A complete list of products requiring certification is available on the Bureau of Philippine Standards website.

DTI says it is committed to ensuring consumer protection and maintaining high standards in the local market, with plans for more frequent and widespread inspections in the coming months. (Source: DTI Oriental Mindoro)
