The Provincial Board of Occidental Mindoro has approved a resolution recognizing and congratulating Ms. Kristine “Jaja” Gabatin Bacungan for her victory as the Lawn Tennis Champion in the 2024 MIMAROPA Regional Athletic Association (MRAA).
Jaja will represent the MIMAROPA region in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa.
Jaja, the second child of Alma and Joselito Bacungan, resides in Barangay 7, San Jose.
Her interest in tennis was sparked by her father, who used to work as a caretaker and ball boy.
Despite financial constraints for training and equipment, Jaja defeated the fourth-ranked national tennis player in the MRAA.
“Indeed, we should take pride in Jaja, who will be the first female tennis athlete from Occidental Mindoro to compete in the Palarong Pambansa,” according to the resolution.
“Let us wholeheartedly support Jaja and other athletes who demonstrate dedication and perseverance in the field of sports,” said Vice Gov. Diana Credo Apigo-Tayag in a social media post.
